Narrative:
Upon arrival at gate approximately 45 mins prior to departure time, I told the gate agent that we might have to move the jetway up to door 1L for maintenance procedures, he said he would coordinate with zone. The mechanic stated that he would check the door (slide light inoperative) and the exit out the same door. I stated that the MEL stated that the slide had to be confirmed armed after the door is closed. (See MEL reference #2566D) that's why I asked that the passenger be enplaned through door 1L, we could get an on time departure. The mechanics agreed after much discussion, and decided to put stairs up to the plane at door 1R, so passenger could still enplane through door 2L, then mechanic would leave through door 1R. In addition, the #1 flight attendant told us that the seal was broken on the door 1L flashlight. I was going to write this up in the book and the mechanic told me not to. I then confirmed through dispatch if I had to write it up in the logbook and dispatch said that maintenance control said no, but page 7.30.3 in the procedures manual said I should have done this. I told all concerned, but they still told me not to write it up (this is not a utility item). The operation became rushed, in my opinion the mechanics obviously avoided doing what was required per the MEL and our procedure manual. Sacrificing safety for on time is not what we are here for, nor my flight crew. We had asked for the mechanics' names for this report and they refused to provide them to us.

Narrative: UPON ARR AT GATE APPROX 45 MINS PRIOR TO DEP TIME, I TOLD THE GATE AGENT THAT WE MIGHT HAVE TO MOVE THE JETWAY UP TO DOOR 1L FOR MAINT PROCS, HE SAID HE WOULD COORDINATE WITH ZONE. THE MECH STATED THAT HE WOULD CHK THE DOOR (SLIDE LIGHT INOP) AND THE EXIT OUT THE SAME DOOR. I STATED THAT THE MEL STATED THAT THE SLIDE HAD TO BE CONFIRMED ARMED AFTER THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THE MECHS AGREED AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION, AND DECIDED TO PUT STAIRS UP TO THE PLANE AT DOOR 1R, SO PAX COULD STILL ENPLANE THROUGH DOOR 2L, THEN MECH WOULD LEAVE THROUGH DOOR 1R. IN ADDITION, THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT TOLD US THAT THE SEAL WAS BROKEN ON THE DOOR 1L FLASHLIGHT. I WAS GOING TO WRITE THIS UP IN THE BOOK AND THE MECH TOLD ME NOT TO.
