Narrative:

Since I have been flying at westchester airport, ny (hpn), the taxi procedures from GA parking to runway 16 is taxiway C, hold short of runway 16, intersection K. At intersection K, further clearance is given to cross runway 16 and proceed up taxiway a to the hold short. Apparently, new taxiway left opened in the last week. When I called for taxi today, ground control told me to taxi to runway 16. ATIS stated that taxiway left was open, but I missed that comment. Without the usual hold short intersection, I proceeded to taxi across the active runway using the old taxi route. My error was crossing an active runway without clearance. Contributing factors were 1) a significant change to a long-standing taxi route, and 2) ground control expecting me to take the new route. Corrective action is 1) follow instructions, and never cross an active runway without specific clearance, and 2) listen to all of ATIS, because important information may be missed.

Narrative: SINCE I HAVE BEEN FLYING AT WESTCHESTER ARPT, NY (HPN), THE TAXI PROCEDURES FROM GA PARKING TO RWY 16 IS TXWY C, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 16, INTXN K. AT INTXN K, FURTHER CLRNC IS GIVEN TO CROSS RWY 16 AND PROCEED UP TXWY A TO THE HOLD SHORT. APPARENTLY, NEW TXWY L OPENED IN THE LAST WK. WHEN I CALLED FOR TAXI TODAY, GND CTL TOLD ME TO TAXI TO RWY 16. ATIS STATED THAT TXWY L WAS OPEN, BUT I MISSED THAT COMMENT. WITHOUT THE USUAL HOLD SHORT INTXN, I PROCEEDED TO TAXI ACROSS THE ACTIVE RWY USING THE OLD TAXI RTE. MY ERROR WAS XING AN ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT CLRNC. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE 1) A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE TO A LONG-STANDING TAXI RTE, AND 2) GND CTL EXPECTING ME TO TAKE THE NEW RTE. CORRECTIVE ACTION IS 1) FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, AND NEVER CROSS AN ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT SPECIFIC CLRNC, AND 2) LISTEN TO ALL OF ATIS, BECAUSE IMPORTANT INFO MAY BE MISSED.
