Narrative:
While in cruise flight at FL330 en route from fulton county, GA (fty) to teterboro, nj (teb), we experienced a thrust reverser arm light and a flashing master warning. Memory items were completed followed by the appropriate checklist. Due to the possibility of a thrust reverser deployment in-flight, the PIC (PF) decided to declare an emergency. He also decided to continue the flight to the destination (teb). I agreed with this decision for several reasons: we were already established on the arrival (JAIKE1) and were at FL330. We showed only about 20 mins to destination and reasoned that it would take about the same amount of time to land at the destination or at a closer airport. In reality, it took closer to 30 mins to land at teb because we had to slow to 200 KTS due to the abnormality. Since everything was set up for an arrival at teb and we were dealing with an abnormality, I feel that we did the right thing not adding any additional tasks (pulling charts for another airport, setting up another approach, etc), at the expense of being in the air as a 'priority aircraft' for maybe another 10 mins. The flight landed at teb without incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C560XL FLT CREW HAS A THRUST REVERSER PROB AND DECLARES AN EMER AND LANDS AT TEB.
Narrative: WHILE IN CRUISE FLT AT FL330 ENRTE FROM FULTON COUNTY, GA (FTY) TO TETERBORO, NJ (TEB), WE EXPERIENCED A THRUST REVERSER ARM LIGHT AND A FLASHING MASTER WARNING. MEMORY ITEMS WERE COMPLETED FOLLOWED BY THE APPROPRIATE CHKLIST. DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF A THRUST REVERSER DEPLOYMENT INFLT, THE PIC (PF) DECIDED TO DECLARE AN EMER. HE ALSO DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE FLT TO THE DEST (TEB). I AGREED WITH THIS DECISION FOR SEVERAL REASONS: WE WERE ALREADY ESTABLISHED ON THE ARR (JAIKE1) AND WERE AT FL330. WE SHOWED ONLY ABOUT 20 MINS TO DEST AND REASONED THAT IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME TO LAND AT THE DEST OR AT A CLOSER ARPT. IN REALITY, IT TOOK CLOSER TO 30 MINS TO LAND AT TEB BECAUSE WE HAD TO SLOW TO 200 KTS DUE TO THE ABNORMALITY. SINCE EVERYTHING WAS SET UP FOR AN ARR AT TEB AND WE WERE DEALING WITH AN ABNORMALITY, I FEEL THAT WE DID THE RIGHT THING NOT ADDING ANY ADDITIONAL TASKS (PULLING CHARTS FOR ANOTHER ARPT, SETTING UP ANOTHER APCH, ETC), AT THE EXPENSE OF BEING IN THE AIR AS A 'PRIORITY ACFT' FOR MAYBE ANOTHER 10 MINS. THE FLT LANDED AT TEB WITHOUT INCIDENT.
