Narrative:
Clearance delivery instructed to stay on frequency and notify when ready to taxi. Upon notification, I was instructed to monitor ground. I interpreted the instruction to commence taxi to the active and monitor ground. If clearance delivery had stated, 'hold position, monitor ground,' I would not have assumed or anticipated the clearance to taxi. In addition, since clearance stated, 'report back when ready to taxi,' instead of contacting ground, I made the wrong assumption that the controller was monitoring both frequencys. This was a human error and was aggravated by my desire to do 'everything right' at a major airport. I got caught in the trap of anticipating the taxi instruction and caught off mental guard when told to monitor clearance instead of what I would normally do -- contact ground when ready to taxi.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE58 TAXIED FOR DEP AT BOS WITHOUT APPROPRIATE GND CTL CLRNC.
Narrative: CLRNC DELIVERY INSTRUCTED TO STAY ON FREQ AND NOTIFY WHEN READY TO TAXI. UPON NOTIFICATION, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO MONITOR GND. I INTERPRETED THE INSTRUCTION TO COMMENCE TAXI TO THE ACTIVE AND MONITOR GND. IF CLRNC DELIVERY HAD STATED, 'HOLD POS, MONITOR GND,' I WOULD NOT HAVE ASSUMED OR ANTICIPATED THE CLRNC TO TAXI. IN ADDITION, SINCE CLRNC STATED, 'RPT BACK WHEN READY TO TAXI,' INSTEAD OF CONTACTING GND, I MADE THE WRONG ASSUMPTION THAT THE CTLR WAS MONITORING BOTH FREQS. THIS WAS A HUMAN ERROR AND WAS AGGRAVATED BY MY DESIRE TO DO 'EVERYTHING RIGHT' AT A MAJOR ARPT. I GOT CAUGHT IN THE TRAP OF ANTICIPATING THE TAXI INSTRUCTION AND CAUGHT OFF MENTAL GUARD WHEN TOLD TO MONITOR CLRNC INSTEAD OF WHAT I WOULD NORMALLY DO -- CONTACT GND WHEN READY TO TAXI.
