Narrative:
Switched to tower controller who asked us to report midco FAF. We were switched to tower 14 mi out. The WX was marginal, however, we saw the field just outside of the FAF. Since there was no reported traffic we began to check the field for moving aircraft and forgot to report midco. This call was obviously the tower's reminder to clear us to land. Since we didn't call the FAF we didn't get a clearance to land. This is a routine trip for us and when all is quiet in the morning (VFR conditions) the potential to miss the call is high.

Title: A FLT CREW FAILS TO RPT THE FINAL APPROACH FIX INBOUND FOR LNDG AS REQUESTED WHICH LED TO MISSING THE LNDG CLRNC.
Narrative: SWITCHED TO TWR CTLR WHO ASKED US TO RPT MIDCO FAF. WE WERE SWITCHED TO TWR 14 MI OUT. THE WX WAS MARGINAL, HOWEVER, WE SAW THE FIELD JUST OUTSIDE OF THE FAF. SINCE THERE WAS NO RPTED TFC WE BEGAN TO CHK THE FIELD FOR MOVING ACFT AND FORGOT TO RPT MIDCO. THIS CALL WAS OBVIOUSLY THE TWR'S REMINDER TO CLR US TO LAND. SINCE WE DIDN'T CALL THE FAF WE DIDN'T GET A CLRNC TO LAND. THIS IS A ROUTINE TRIP FOR US AND WHEN ALL IS QUIET IN THE MORNING (VFR CONDITIONS) THE POTENTIAL TO MISS THE CALL IS HIGH.
