Narrative:
Filed VFR ADIZ local clearance with leesburg AFSS in person. After preflight, called potomac clearance delivery for transponder code and departure frequency. Departed jyo and called potomac departure to activate clearance. Contact was made and then advised to return to unicom advisory frequency. Several lndgs and takeoffs were made remaining in traffic pattern VFR. Extended downwind leg to practice localizer runway 17 approach VFR under class B airspace. Used unicom frequency advising location so as not to conflict with other VFR traffic. Jyo unicom called me to contact potomac clearance delivery upon completion of landing. Called potomac and was told not to fly outside the VFR traffic pattern. I explained that I was not aware of the procedures concerning practicing a VOR runway 17 published approach in VFR conditions. I asked potomac if I could continue to practice VFR traffic pattern lndgs and takeoffs using the existing clearance code, and was approved to continue.

Title: JYO UNICOM OPERATOR ADVISES C172 PLT TO CALL PCT CLRNC DELIVERY TO CLARIFY VFR TFC OPS AT JYO.
Narrative: FILED VFR ADIZ LCL CLRNC WITH LEESBURG AFSS IN PERSON. AFTER PREFLT, CALLED POTOMAC CLRNC DELIVERY FOR XPONDER CODE AND DEP FREQ. DEPARTED JYO AND CALLED POTOMAC DEP TO ACTIVATE CLRNC. CONTACT WAS MADE AND THEN ADVISED TO RETURN TO UNICOM ADVISORY FREQ. SEVERAL LNDGS AND TKOFS WERE MADE REMAINING IN TFC PATTERN VFR. EXTENDED DOWNWIND LEG TO PRACTICE LOC RWY 17 APCH VFR UNDER CLASS B AIRSPACE. USED UNICOM FREQ ADVISING LOCATION SO AS NOT TO CONFLICT WITH OTHER VFR TFC. JYO UNICOM CALLED ME TO CONTACT POTOMAC CLRNC DELIVERY UPON COMPLETION OF LNDG. CALLED POTOMAC AND WAS TOLD NOT TO FLY OUTSIDE THE VFR TFC PATTERN. I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROCS CONCERNING PRACTICING A VOR RWY 17 PUBLISHED APCH IN VFR CONDITIONS. I ASKED POTOMAC IF I COULD CONTINUE TO PRACTICE VFR TFC PATTERN LNDGS AND TKOFS USING THE EXISTING CLRNC CODE, AND WAS APPROVED TO CONTINUE.
