Narrative:
25 mi outside of the capital city airport, radio communication was lost. Voices could be heard over the frequencys but no one could hear myself. After attempting several times to obtain communication with reading approach, I changed frequencys to contact harrisburg approach. After several tries, again I received no response. I then changed the frequency code to 121.5. Now I had the airport in sight. I was on final for runway 26, however, I maneuvered the plane to the right in order to check for other planes on final. Ahead, a plane had just taken off on runway 26 and another plane was at position and hold. With what I described in sight, I landed the plane. Upon landing, my chief flight instructor, informed me of the steps I forgot to take. I should have squawked 7600, stayed 500 ft above the traffic pattern until it was safe to land and contacted the control tower. In my defense I did not contact the control tower, because prior to that no one could hear me.
