Narrative:

During the landing rollout on runway 4R at jfk, tower instructed us to turn at fb. There were no lead in lights to fb, and no blue taxi lights on each side of fb. In fact, we could not even see a taxiway sign. Although the yellow lines off runway 4R were barely visible under our nose light, in the interest of safety, we continued our rollout to taxiway east at the end. This taxiway had the required lighting for safe taxi. As we informed jfk tower we were exiting at taxiway east, because of inadequate lights on fb, tower told air carrier aircraft on final for runway 4R to go around. Tower controller then stated, 'air carrier X, just so you know, you are the first aircraft tonight to miss that taxi turn off.' after that ATC made no further comments. Far's state that landing aircraft have all available runway length if needed. Once we returned to the gate, we read the NOTAMS for jfk. There were no NOTAMS indicating taxiway lights being OTS. The attached copy of jfk diagram depicts our movement.

Title: ACR ACFT INSTRUCTED TO GO AROUND AT JFK WHEN PRECEDING ACFT UNABLE TO CLR RWY DUE TO INOP LIGHTING ON THE TXWY REQUESTED BY LCL CTLR.

Narrative: DURING THE LNDG ROLLOUT ON RWY 4R AT JFK, TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN AT FB. THERE WERE NO LEAD IN LIGHTS TO FB, AND NO BLUE TAXI LIGHTS ON EACH SIDE OF FB. IN FACT, WE COULD NOT EVEN SEE A TXWY SIGN. ALTHOUGH THE YELLOW LINES OFF RWY 4R WERE BARELY VISIBLE UNDER OUR NOSE LIGHT, IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, WE CONTINUED OUR ROLLOUT TO TXWY E AT THE END. THIS TXWY HAD THE REQUIRED LIGHTING FOR SAFE TAXI. AS WE INFORMED JFK TWR WE WERE EXITING AT TXWY E, BECAUSE OF INADEQUATE LIGHTS ON FB, TWR TOLD ACR ACFT ON FINAL FOR RWY 4R TO GO AROUND. TWR CTLR THEN STATED, 'ACR X, JUST SO YOU KNOW, YOU ARE THE FIRST ACFT TONIGHT TO MISS THAT TAXI TURN OFF.' AFTER THAT ATC MADE NO FURTHER COMMENTS. FAR'S STATE THAT LNDG ACFT HAVE ALL AVAILABLE RWY LENGTH IF NEEDED. ONCE WE RETURNED TO THE GATE, WE READ THE NOTAMS FOR JFK. THERE WERE NO NOTAMS INDICATING TXWY LIGHTS BEING OTS. THE ATTACHED COPY OF JFK DIAGRAM DEPICTS OUR MOVEMENT.
