Narrative:
I fly a helicopter for a large government utility company. I was ordered to pick up an observer as soon as possible because a pwrline had shut down. Because I was in a hurry, I forgot to telephone FSS and get a discrete squawk (reference NOTAM ifdc 2/5167 paragraph east). I flew for approximately 1 hour. Upon my return, I remembered I had not requested the squawk. The problem was caused by me rushing. Only 50% of FSS I contact know of this NOTAM. Some will not give me a code. Perhaps some kind of standardization would help.
