Narrative:
Descending from 9500 ft into cxu for trip to lal, engine began running very rough and experienced partial power loss. Made precautionary landing in a field 3 mi north of cxu. 25 liters of fuel was in wing tanks, but fuel bowl only was 1/2 full. Traveling with a&P mechanic. Suspect vapor lock during descent in 85 degree WX. Restarted 1 hour later and engine ran fine. Did a full power ground run and checked ok. Received permission from farmer to take off out of field. Flew 3 mi south to cxu and left the aircraft there pending further evaluation. Should have stayed higher on descent to cxu. If, I had planned to arrive over airport at 2000 ft instead of tpa, I would have made the airport with the power loss. Will now arrive over intended landing airports in high key position and spiral down to pattern altitude.
