Narrative:
Landed in gulfport (gpt) ms, thought we were told to monitor ground (runway 14) frequency. Told to turn on taxiway a, which we did. I was not told of any hold short instructions. We did contact ground to make sure they wanted us to go to the ramp after we crossed runway 18. The ground told us to go to the ramp. Once getting to the gate ground told us to call the tower, in that we crossed an active runway 18, which had a piper holding in position to take off. Contributing factors could be, (I have not heard the tapes) was I (captain) did not hear the contact ground and the ground and tower could have made sure to tell me to 'hold short and that the runway had an aircraft on runway 18.'
