Narrative:
Aircraft was experiencing an autospoiler fail message on the eoap (annunciator panel) after takeoff for approximately 1 month. While troubleshooting per maintenance manual I discovered the fail message was being caused by the portion of the right dual brake control valve that stops the left main landing gear wheels from spinning during the gear up cycle. The part needed was not in stock at ZZZ. I then informed my lead mechanic and he in turn contacted the maintenance control. We then decided to supplement the log item for part needed and continued item on original maintenance carryover (deferred item). It was determined later that day by maintenance control the part should have been continued on maintenance carryover. The aircraft was stopped for replacement of valve.
