Narrative:
MEL compliance. Autospoiler placarded by maintenance at gate. On taxi out, advancing throttles to check for warnings yielded autobrake. I selected autobrake to takeoff, but did not arm. Advanced throttles again and autospoiler was heard. I then raised the spoiler handle to see if this might silence the warning. It did. I selected reverse to verify that the autospoiler was deactivated. It was. All of this was accomplished on taxi out prior to the runway. Takeoff to ZZZ1 was uneventful. A call back to ZZZ maintenance to advise them of the confign to silence the warnings yielded the reminder that the autospoiler was not to be armed. He also later advised to contact company technician. I called them about 20 mins into the flight to advise them of the situation. Through that conversation, he advised that the autospoiler was not properly deactivated and ZZZ1 would be notified for follow up. I referred to the MEL prior to leaving the gate and to the verbiage on taxi out. The verbiage mentioned the autobrake twice and not the autospoiler. This was corrected in ZZZ1. My raising the spoiler handle to silence the warning was contradictory to the MEL. Aircraft autospoiler was deactivated properly in ZZZ1 and continued to next destination. I should have referred back to the MEL. I should have not tried to silence the warning in a way that was contrary to the MEL. Supplemental information from acn 565914: prior to pushback, 'autospoiler do not use' annunciator light illuminated. ZZZ mechanics notified and deactivated autospoiler system referencing MEL 27-08C. On taxi out, captain tested throttle warnings. 'Automatic brakes' warning sounded. Turned autobrake selector switch to takeoff position, but did not arm it. Tested throttle warnings again. 'Automatic spoilers' warning sounded. Raised spoiler lever as if arming and tested throttle warnings. No warnings heard. In clear on the taxiway activated reverser handles. Spoiler lever did not deploy indicating autospoilers were deactivated and not armed. Took off with spoiler lever in 'autospoilers armed' position though deactivated and with autobrake selector switch disarmed in takeoff position.

Title: MD80 MAINT MEL'ED THE AUTOSPOILER SYS IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH MEL PROCS. CREW HAD AUTOBRAKES AND AUTOSPOILERS ON TAXI OUT.
Narrative: MEL COMPLIANCE. AUTOSPOILER PLACARDED BY MAINT AT GATE. ON TAXI OUT, ADVANCING THROTTLES TO CHK FOR WARNINGS YIELDED AUTOBRAKE. I SELECTED AUTOBRAKE TO TKOF, BUT DID NOT ARM. IT WAS. ALL OF THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED ON TAXI OUT PRIOR TO THE RWY. TKOF TO ZZZ1 WAS UNEVENTFUL. A CALL BACK TO ZZZ MAINT TO ADVISE THEM OF THE CONFIGN TO SILENCE THE WARNINGS YIELDED THE REMINDER THAT THE AUTOSPOILER WAS NOT TO BE ARMED. HE ALSO LATER ADVISED TO CONTACT COMPANY TECHNICIAN. I CALLED THEM ABOUT 20 MINS INTO THE FLT TO ADVISE THEM OF THE SIT. ACFT AUTOSPOILER WAS DEACTIVATED PROPERLY IN ZZZ1 AND CONTINUED TO NEXT DEST. I SHOULD HAVE REFERRED BACK TO THE MEL. I SHOULD HAVE NOT TRIED TO SILENCE THE WARNING IN A WAY THAT WAS CONTRARY TO THE MEL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 565914: PRIOR TO PUSHBACK, 'AUTOSPOILER DO NOT USE' ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ZZZ MECHS NOTIFIED AND DEACTIVATED AUTOSPOILER SYS REFING MEL 27-08C. ON TAXI OUT, CAPT TESTED THROTTLE WARNINGS. 'AUTO BRAKES' WARNING SOUNDED. TURNED AUTOBRAKE SELECTOR SWITCH TO TKOF POS, BUT DID NOT ARM IT. TESTED THROTTLE WARNINGS AGAIN. 'AUTO SPOILERS' WARNING SOUNDED. RAISED SPOILER LEVER AS IF ARMING AND TESTED THROTTLE WARNINGS. NO WARNINGS HEARD. IN CLR ON THE TXWY ACTIVATED REVERSER HANDLES. SPOILER LEVER DID NOT DEPLOY INDICATING AUTOSPOILERS WERE DEACTIVATED AND NOT ARMED. TOOK OFF WITH SPOILER LEVER IN 'AUTOSPOILERS ARMED' POS THOUGH DEACTIVATED AND WITH AUTOBRAKE SELECTOR SWITCH DISARMED IN TKOF POS.
