Narrative:
Departed ksan about XA00 pm local time en route to ksdm, 13.8 mi away. Approach said airport 12:30 O'clock position, 10 mi. I said I had the airport in sight. We cancelled the IFR flight plan and switched to CTAF and landed at tijuana, mexico, 1.6 NM to the south. On base leg, our GPS said that the airport was .5 NM from us. We looked out the window and the airport was right there, so we landed. After we landed, we taxied off the runway and found the txwys did not look correct. If the airport had a precision approach, we would have had it dialed in and I'm sure this would not have happened. Things happen very fast in a jet and we were so close, I thought it was the right airport. We verify things much closer now and hope this will never happen again.
