Narrative:
Visual approach to runway 16R slc. Tower controller advised 'traffic alert, VFR aircraft 1 1/2 mi, 5700 ft MSL, not complying with instructions.' first officer leveled aircraft at 6000 ft MSL. We acquired the VFR aircraft and continued approach to runway. Could not reestablish glide path. Executed go around and complied with ATC instructions. Reentered downwind and landed on runway 16R.

Narrative: VISUAL APCH TO RWY 16R SLC. TWR CTLR ADVISED 'TFC ALERT, VFR ACFT 1 1/2 MI, 5700 FT MSL, NOT COMPLYING WITH INSTRUCTIONS.' FO LEVELED ACFT AT 6000 FT MSL. WE ACQUIRED THE VFR ACFT AND CONTINUED APCH TO RWY. COULD NOT REESTABLISH GLIDE PATH. EXECUTED GAR AND COMPLIED WITH ATC INSTRUCTIONS. REENTERED DOWNWIND AND LANDED ON RWY 16R.
