Narrative:
Received 3 changes of runway assignment during progressive taxi instructions due to shifting winds. I was trying to get out before storms arrived, and controller was attempting to expedite everyone's departure as well. I was #2 in line behind a C172, and I was attempting to complete run-up so that I could depart shortly after the C172. The C172 was cleared and departed. I did not watch it taxi and take off. I completed my run-up and was quickly cleared for takeoff with instructions to fly a 090 degree heading. I was on a large, long and wide taxiway. Rather than taxiing and turning right onto runway 14, I started to take off on this taxiway, which was in 090 degree direction. The tower told me to abort, which I did promptly, I taxied back, and took off on runway 14. The rushed and hurried atmosphere, due to WX, was the culprit. Unfamiliarity with the airport and txwys were a contributing factor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF C337 RUSHED BY APCHING TSTMS INADVERTENTLY STARTED TKOF ON TXWY VICE RWY ON WHICH CLRED BY FPR ATCT LCL CTLR. ABORTED TKOF WHEN ALERTED BY CTLR.
Narrative: RECEIVED 3 CHANGES OF RWY ASSIGNMENT DURING PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS DUE TO SHIFTING WINDS. I WAS TRYING TO GET OUT BEFORE STORMS ARRIVED, AND CTLR WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXPEDITE EVERYONE'S DEP AS WELL. I WAS #2 IN LINE BEHIND A C172, AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO COMPLETE RUN-UP SO THAT I COULD DEPART SHORTLY AFTER THE C172. THE C172 WAS CLRED AND DEPARTED. I DID NOT WATCH IT TAXI AND TAKE OFF. I COMPLETED MY RUN-UP AND WAS QUICKLY CLRED FOR TKOF WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO FLY A 090 DEG HDG. I WAS ON A LARGE, LONG AND WIDE TXWY. RATHER THAN TAXIING AND TURNING R ONTO RWY 14, I STARTED TO TAKE OFF ON THIS TXWY, WHICH WAS IN 090 DEG DIRECTION. THE TWR TOLD ME TO ABORT, WHICH I DID PROMPTLY, I TAXIED BACK, AND TOOK OFF ON RWY 14. THE RUSHED AND HURRIED ATMOSPHERE, DUE TO WX, WAS THE CULPRIT. UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE ARPT AND TXWYS WERE A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.
