Narrative:

Lightning strike. While flying at FL290 and waiting for ATC to give us higher altitude to FL330 we flew into a cell with heavy rain, turbulence, and possible hail. While in this cell we were struck by lightning. We heard a distinct pop, the autoplt disconnected and we smelled what appeared to be smoke for a very short time. We found no obvious damage on the postflt inspection and made the appropriate entry in the maintenance logbook. The radar failed to paint this WX at any setting.
