Narrative:
While being vectored towards gai under pct, we acquired visual contact with the field. We were told to cancel IFR, and switch to advisory. We did this and squawked 1200. We were still monitoring the arrival frequency and had him query us as to our intentions and gave us vectors to the north, then a phone number to call when we got on the ground. Factors: we noted the NOTAM for gai concerning the tfr, but could find no specific note of squawk 1200 being forbidden, and received no admonition from ATC to that effect. Being under radar control we assumed that we were protected. Corrective action: a more complete and accurate description in the NOTAM and in company information describing the prohibition against squawk 1200 in the ADIZ.
