Narrative:
Departed airport at sunset only to realize I was not night current. Once airborne, called company to advise them I wasn't night current and was returning to airport. Company uses computer to track night currency and trip should never have been dispatched to me because I was not night current. For whatever reason, it wasn't flagged and I was diverted for this trip. This was day 6 or my 7 day tour and was too busy setting up customs and making sure everything else was ready to go that I didn't realize I would be landing at my destination during nighttime. Returned back to airport at 35 mins after sunset. Company advised me that their poi doesn't interpretation nighttime starting until 1 hour after sunset, so I hadn't violated nighttime currency. Waited until after 1 hour and went up with my sic and we did 3 takeoffs and lndgs to a full stop. Then passenger boarded and we took them to their destination. Passenger were delayed by 2.3 hours.
