Narrative:
We received a warning message for the right engine indicating the oil strainer was clogged. I opened our procedure manual and verified the appropriate checklist with the first officer. The checklist told us to retard throttle until the light goes out. About 1/2 inch from idle, the light went out. After 30 seconds, the light came back on, so I retarded the throttle to idle. At this time the airspeed was decaying and the first officer was unable to maintain altitude, so I declared an emergency. Center cleared us to FL240. We descended towards FL240 and I asked to divert to cvg. After turning towards the field, I requested the emergency trucks stand by. We continued for an uneventful landing at cvg. After clearing the runway, I secured the right engine and proceeded single engine taxi to the gate.

Title: MD88 CREW HAD THE OIL FILTER CLOG LIGHT ILLUMINATE IN ZID CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: WE RECEIVED A WARNING MESSAGE FOR THE R ENG INDICATING THE OIL STRAINER WAS CLOGGED. I OPENED OUR PROC MANUAL AND VERIFIED THE APPROPRIATE CHKLIST WITH THE FO. THE CHKLIST TOLD US TO RETARD THROTTLE UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OUT. ABOUT 1/2 INCH FROM IDLE, THE LIGHT WENT OUT. AFTER 30 SECONDS, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON, SO I RETARDED THE THROTTLE TO IDLE. AT THIS TIME THE AIRSPD WAS DECAYING AND THE FO WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALT, SO I DECLARED AN EMER. CTR CLRED US TO FL240. WE DSNDED TOWARDS FL240 AND I ASKED TO DIVERT TO CVG. AFTER TURNING TOWARDS THE FIELD, I REQUESTED THE EMER TRUCKS STAND BY. WE CONTINUED FOR AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG AT CVG. AFTER CLRING THE RWY, I SECURED THE R ENG AND PROCEEDED SINGLE ENG TAXI TO THE GATE.
