Narrative:

We had just completed our run-up. We had heard the other aircraft make 1 radio call at 10 mi out and inbound for landing. That is the only radio call we heard. We looked at both ends of the runway on final, then base and downwind. We saw no traffic or aircraft at any of the above locations. We then announced that we were departing runway, and then rolled onto the runway and looked down the runway -- still no traffic. We then advanced the throttles and started our roll. At this point, the other aircraft came into view. We then chopped the throttles and moved to the next taxiway ramp and left the runway. The other aircraft continued to the taxiway prior to ours and exited the runway. Due to the slope of the runway and the lack of announcements from the other pilot, we did not know they had already landed and was on a long rollout. The other had done straight approach landing opposite our direction. The winds were favoring the runway heading we were using, but the winds had been mostly a crosswind. We did hear the second aircraft when unicom called them and asked if they needed services. After we came back and landed, I was approached by the other pilot, and he stated 'we sure had a great game of chicken out there.' I then informed him that we only heard the first radio call at 10 mi and no other until after unicom had talked to him. He said that he had made several calls and that was that. I stated that we should all be more careful next time and then that was the end of the conversation. I think that the following factors should be noted. The runway is 8000 ft long. Has a slight dip at the south end (the end where the second plane had landed). The second plane had been below our eyesight and we could not see it as we started our takeoff roll. Also, the lack of position location and the fact that the second plane did a straight-in approach. I do not feel that the second pilot could have seen us either due to the length and slight rise in the runway. I do not know why he did not radio us when we stated our takeoff roll. I checked with our FBO, and they heard my radio calls. They did not say yes or no on hearing the second aircraft.

Title: PA23 EXPERIENCED RWY INCURSION AT NON TWRED ARPT.

Narrative: WE HAD JUST COMPLETED OUR RUN-UP. WE HAD HEARD THE OTHER ACFT MAKE 1 RADIO CALL AT 10 MI OUT AND INBOUND FOR LNDG. THAT IS THE ONLY RADIO CALL WE HEARD. WE LOOKED AT BOTH ENDS OF THE RWY ON FINAL, THEN BASE AND DOWNWIND. WE SAW NO TFC OR ACFT AT ANY OF THE ABOVE LOCATIONS. WE THEN ANNOUNCED THAT WE WERE DEPARTING RWY, AND THEN ROLLED ONTO THE RWY AND LOOKED DOWN THE RWY -- STILL NO TFC. WE THEN ADVANCED THE THROTTLES AND STARTED OUR ROLL. AT THIS POINT, THE OTHER ACFT CAME INTO VIEW. WE THEN CHOPPED THE THROTTLES AND MOVED TO THE NEXT TXWY RAMP AND LEFT THE RWY. THE OTHER ACFT CONTINUED TO THE TXWY PRIOR TO OURS AND EXITED THE RWY. DUE TO THE SLOPE OF THE RWY AND THE LACK OF ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE OTHER PLT, WE DID NOT KNOW THEY HAD ALREADY LANDED AND WAS ON A LONG ROLLOUT. THE OTHER HAD DONE STRAIGHT APCH LNDG OPPOSITE OUR DIRECTION. THE WINDS WERE FAVORING THE RWY HDG WE WERE USING, BUT THE WINDS HAD BEEN MOSTLY A XWIND. WE DID HEAR THE SECOND ACFT WHEN UNICOM CALLED THEM AND ASKED IF THEY NEEDED SVCS. AFTER WE CAME BACK AND LANDED, I WAS APCHED BY THE OTHER PLT, AND HE STATED 'WE SURE HAD A GREAT GAME OF CHICKEN OUT THERE.' I THEN INFORMED HIM THAT WE ONLY HEARD THE FIRST RADIO CALL AT 10 MI AND NO OTHER UNTIL AFTER UNICOM HAD TALKED TO HIM. THE RWY IS 8000 FT LONG. HAS A SLIGHT DIP AT THE S END (THE END WHERE THE SECOND PLANE HAD LANDED). THE SECOND PLANE HAD BEEN BELOW OUR EYESIGHT AND WE COULD NOT SEE IT AS WE STARTED OUR TKOF ROLL. ALSO, THE LACK OF POS LOCATION AND THE FACT THAT THE SECOND PLANE DID A STRAIGHT-IN APCH. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE SECOND PLT COULD HAVE SEEN US EITHER DUE TO THE LENGTH AND SLIGHT RISE IN THE RWY. I DO NOT KNOW WHY HE DID NOT RADIO US WHEN WE STATED OUR TKOF ROLL. I CHKED WITH OUR FBO, AND THEY HEARD MY RADIO CALLS. THEY DID NOT SAY YES OR NO ON HEARING THE SECOND ACFT.
