Narrative:
Slid seat back and clicking begins on frequency. Center said to check mikes for stuck microphone. Not a reasonable request since the stuck microphone will not hear this. Responded to several calls and received ACARS message regarding stuck microphone. No concern since we heard clicks and center messages. Finally were told it was us. I disconnected observer seat microphone and clicking stopped. Later, noticed observer's radio panel had #1 communication selected. Searched further and found on this aircraft when seat is in comfortable position with seat slid back for meal tray, corner of seat contacts observer microphone. If I lean forward it releases microphone button -- lean back, presses transmit. Not well placed. Beware. Also, since we could hear center, we could not have a stuck microphone, but we had an intermittent transmitting microphone.

Title: AN MD80 PLT SLIDES SEAT BACK TO EAT A MEAL WHICH RESULTED IN THE SEAT COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE OBSERVER MIKE SWITCH.
Narrative: SLID SEAT BACK AND CLICKING BEGINS ON FREQ. CTR SAID TO CHK MIKES FOR STUCK MIKE. NOT A REASONABLE REQUEST SINCE THE STUCK MIKE WILL NOT HEAR THIS. RESPONDED TO SEVERAL CALLS AND RECEIVED ACARS MESSAGE REGARDING STUCK MIKE. NO CONCERN SINCE WE HEARD CLICKS AND CTR MESSAGES. FINALLY WERE TOLD IT WAS US. I DISCONNECTED OBSERVER SEAT MIKE AND CLICKING STOPPED. LATER, NOTICED OBSERVER'S RADIO PANEL HAD #1 COM SELECTED. SEARCHED FURTHER AND FOUND ON THIS ACFT WHEN SEAT IS IN COMFORTABLE POS WITH SEAT SLID BACK FOR MEAL TRAY, CORNER OF SEAT CONTACTS OBSERVER MIKE. IF I LEAN FORWARD IT RELEASES MIKE BUTTON -- LEAN BACK, PRESSES XMIT. NOT WELL PLACED. BEWARE. ALSO, SINCE WE COULD HEAR CTR, WE COULD NOT HAVE A STUCK MIKE, BUT WE HAD AN INTERMITTENT XMITTING MIKE.
