Narrative:
TCASII RA event. During descent into stt, ATC advised us of climbing traffic out of sju. We were descending to FL260 and the intruder flight was climbing to FL250. We shallowed out our rate of descent around FL270 and almost simultaneously we received a TCASII TA. As we continued descent to FL260 we continued to decrease our rate of descent. Just as we leveled at FL260, we received an RA to climb. We began to climb from FL260 even though we had our traffic in sight which had leveled at FL250 deviated about 100 ft from assigned altitude when we received a 'monitor vertical speed' command. Shortly thereafter, TCASII terminated and we returned to our previously assigned altitude of FL260. The controller was notified while the intruder aircraft also notified the controller of their TCASII RA as well.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757-200 CREW WAS DSNDING TO FL260 AND ANOTHER ACR ACFT WAS CLBING TO FL250. THEY HAD COORDINATED TCASII TA'S IN ZSU'S CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: TCASII RA EVENT. DURING DSCNT INTO STT, ATC ADVISED US OF CLBING TFC OUT OF SJU. WE WERE DSNDING TO FL260 AND THE INTRUDER FLT WAS CLBING TO FL250. WE SHALLOWED OUT OUR RATE OF DSCNT AROUND FL270 AND ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY WE RECEIVED A TCASII TA. AS WE CONTINUED DSCNT TO FL260 WE CONTINUED TO DECREASE OUR RATE OF DSCNT. JUST AS WE LEVELED AT FL260, WE RECEIVED AN RA TO CLB. WE BEGAN TO CLB FROM FL260 EVEN THOUGH WE HAD OUR TFC IN SIGHT WHICH HAD LEVELED AT FL250 DEVIATED ABOUT 100 FT FROM ASSIGNED ALT WHEN WE RECEIVED A 'MONITOR VERT SPD' COMMAND. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, TCASII TERMINATED AND WE RETURNED TO OUR PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED ALT OF FL260. THE CTLR WAS NOTIFIED WHILE THE INTRUDER ACFT ALSO NOTIFIED THE CTLR OF THEIR TCASII RA AS WELL.
