Narrative:
During landing rollout (above 100 KTS) at mmgl, tower cleared us to exit runway 28, cross runway 20, contact ramp on 134.9. As we crossed runway 20 tower instructed us to contact 134.9. We checked chart page, found no such frequency (ramp is 134.1), but found ground to be 121.9. Contacted ground, who asked why we had crossed an active runway 20. We replied that tower had cleared us to do so. In retrospect, I think what tower actually said during rollout was 'cross runway 20 (ie, don't turn off onto runway 20), exit taxiway H, contact ground 121.9.' between the heavily accented english, and the fact that the instructions were delivered while we were still rolling quite fast, contributed to the misunderstanding. Both pilots have extensive international experience, both in mexico, and around the world, so we were quite sure that we were abiding by tower instructions, accent or no accent.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 FLT CREW HAS A RWY INCURSION AT MMGL.
Narrative: DURING LNDG ROLLOUT (ABOVE 100 KTS) AT MMGL, TWR CLRED US TO EXIT RWY 28, CROSS RWY 20, CONTACT RAMP ON 134.9. AS WE CROSSED RWY 20 TWR INSTRUCTED US TO CONTACT 134.9. WE CHKED CHART PAGE, FOUND NO SUCH FREQ (RAMP IS 134.1), BUT FOUND GND TO BE 121.9. CONTACTED GND, WHO ASKED WHY WE HAD CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY 20. WE REPLIED THAT TWR HAD CLRED US TO DO SO. IN RETROSPECT, I THINK WHAT TWR ACTUALLY SAID DURING ROLLOUT WAS 'CROSS RWY 20 (IE, DON'T TURN OFF ONTO RWY 20), EXIT TXWY H, CONTACT GND 121.9.' BTWN THE HEAVILY ACCENTED ENGLISH, AND THE FACT THAT THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE DELIVERED WHILE WE WERE STILL ROLLING QUITE FAST, CONTRIBUTED TO THE MISUNDERSTANDING. BOTH PLTS HAVE EXTENSIVE INTL EXPERIENCE, BOTH IN MEXICO, AND AROUND THE WORLD, SO WE WERE QUITE SURE THAT WE WERE ABIDING BY TWR INSTRUCTIONS, ACCENT OR NO ACCENT.
