Narrative:
During climb out, at 1500 ft AGL, the cargo smoke detector warning sounded. The detector indicated smoke in the #5 area. The crew notified ATC, declared an emergency, accomplished all related checklists, and returned to the ind airport. The landing was made on runway 23L. I (captain) stopped the aircraft on the runway. After accomplishing the appropriate checklist(south) the crew evacuate/evacuationed the aircraft through the main entry door via the emergency escape slide. Supplemental information from acn 595457: so thought he saw and smelled smoke.

Title: A B727 FLT CREW RECEIVE A CARGO SMOKE LIGHT JUST AFTER TKOF. THE FLT CREW RETURNED FOR LNDG AND EVACED.
Narrative: DURING CLBOUT, AT 1500 FT AGL, THE CARGO SMOKE DETECTOR WARNING SOUNDED. THE DETECTOR INDICATED SMOKE IN THE #5 AREA. THE CREW NOTIFIED ATC, DECLARED AN EMER, ACCOMPLISHED ALL RELATED CHKLISTS, AND RETURNED TO THE IND ARPT. THE LNDG WAS MADE ON RWY 23L. I (CAPT) STOPPED THE ACFT ON THE RWY.
