Narrative:

Started feeling and hearing vibration and noticed the #1 engine fan vibe indication was very erratic between .2 and 2.1. The engine suddenly shut down. We declared an emergency and started a single engine drift-down. We first asked for vectors to crw or hts because they were the closest. We then realized due to those airports having mountainous terrain, special use airports, and we were also over our maximum landing weight, this was no longer a safe option. Cvg was our next closest safe airport, and we received immediate vectors to cvg. We were only 118 mi from cvg and this gave us just enough time to complete checklists and talk to dispatch, maintenance, passenger and the flight attendant. We proceeded to cvg for an uneventful landing. I know that crw and hts were closer, but I believe that cvg was our closest suitable airport.

Title: CL65 FLT CREW HAS AN ENG FAILURE, DECLARES AN EMER AND DIVERTS TO CVG.

Narrative: STARTED FEELING AND HEARING VIBRATION AND NOTICED THE #1 ENG FAN VIBE INDICATION WAS VERY ERRATIC BTWN .2 AND 2.1. THE ENG SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN. WE DECLARED AN EMER AND STARTED A SINGLE ENG DRIFT-DOWN. WE FIRST ASKED FOR VECTORS TO CRW OR HTS BECAUSE THEY WERE THE CLOSEST. WE THEN REALIZED DUE TO THOSE ARPTS HAVING MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN, SPECIAL USE ARPTS, AND WE WERE ALSO OVER OUR MAX LNDG WT, THIS WAS NO LONGER A SAFE OPTION. CVG WAS OUR NEXT CLOSEST SAFE ARPT, AND WE RECEIVED IMMEDIATE VECTORS TO CVG. WE WERE ONLY 118 MI FROM CVG AND THIS GAVE US JUST ENOUGH TIME TO COMPLETE CHKLISTS AND TALK TO DISPATCH, MAINT, PAX AND THE FLT ATTENDANT. WE PROCEEDED TO CVG FOR AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. I KNOW THAT CRW AND HTS WERE CLOSER, BUT I BELIEVE THAT CVG WAS OUR CLOSEST SUITABLE ARPT.
