Narrative:
On approach, put gear down at approximately 3500 ft and had flaps 20 degrees extended. Everything at this point was normal. At approximately 2700 ft the first officer and I heard several loud thumps. We quickly checked engine instruments and gear synoptic. All looked normal. Several more thumps were heard and the cabin interphone started ringing. First officer tried to answer the calls but the flight attendant continually called and interphone did not reset, so we were not able to make contact. Since all indications seemed normal at 1000 ft and 500 ft we decided to ignore thumps and interphone rings and just land. On arrival we called maintenance to report possible damage in forward cargo pit. At this time we know of 3 containers that were damaged. We also know from maintenance that this occurred on a flight the previous day.
