Narrative:
On oct/thu, I deferred 2 lavatory outside ashtrays per gpm 17-01. As company has all no smoking flts, I assumed this was a non airworthy/safety of flight item. I was informed this was wrong and it was an MEL item.

Title: A B757-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH 2 LAVATORY DOOR EXTERIOR ASH TRAYS MISSING. MEL ALLOWS NO DEFERRAL.
Narrative: ON OCT/THU, I DEFERRED 2 LAVATORY OUTSIDE ASHTRAYS PER GPM 17-01. AS COMPANY HAS ALL NO SMOKING FLTS, I ASSUMED THIS WAS A NON AIRWORTHY/SAFETY OF FLT ITEM. I WAS INFORMED THIS WAS WRONG AND IT WAS AN MEL ITEM.
