Narrative:

In boarding process, purser said we had an intoxicated passenger and my reply was we could not take him. While on the jetbridge phone with maintenance, I overheard conversation between passenger, purser, and agent. Passenger said he had a few drinks but wasn't drunk and would not be a problem. Said he planned to sleep the whole way home. Another flight attendant interjected he would not be served alcoholic drink. I finished my phone call and briefed purser on maintenance problem and returned to cockpit to run checklists as departure time was near. As door was closing, I asked purser what became of subject passenger and he said he was on board and would not be a problem. Passenger was not belligerent and the only symptom I noticed was maybe a mild stupor.
