Narrative:

Flight departed zbaa to ZZZ without any mention of an ETOPS operation on the flight papers we received during the briefing. A 2 part flight plan forecast was obtained for the crew briefing whereas it was subsequently noted that dispatch had a 5 part flight plan forecast on record for the flight which showed a 180 min ETOPS operation. During the flight I questioned dispatch regarding the ETOPS operation of this flight and it was then that the discrepancy surfaced. We subsequently received pertinent ETOPS 180 mins including alternate WX prior to entering ETOPS airspace and continued our flight without incidence. The flight concluded safely. Supplemental information from acn 598346: this was my first ever trip to zbaa and I was unfamiliar with the procedures and requirements. Prior to the flight we discussed the effects of recent solar activity and a probable southern routing. When we got the fpf we noticed there were no ETOPS alternates and rationalized that the flight was almost solely over land and must be within 60 mins of a suitable alternate. Soon into the flight captain planned for diversion airports and noticed that we were not within 60 mins. However, we believed dispatch must know something we did not and had a diversion plan for us. We had confidence in dispatch and it did not occur to us that they would overlook this. It was our inexperience and an overland routing that resulted in our flight without ETOPS data.

Title: A B777 FLT CREW REALIZED WHILE ENRTE THAT THE DISPATCH OFFICE HAD NOT INCLUDED THE 180 MIN ETOPS INFO ALONG WITH THE FLT PLAN THAT TOOK THEM THROUGH OFFSHORE FOREIGN AIRSPACE AFTER DEP ZBAA, FO.

Narrative: FLT DEPARTED ZBAA TO ZZZ WITHOUT ANY MENTION OF AN ETOPS OP ON THE FLT PAPERS WE RECEIVED DURING THE BRIEFING. A 2 PART FLT PLAN FORECAST WAS OBTAINED FOR THE CREW BRIEFING WHEREAS IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY NOTED THAT DISPATCH HAD A 5 PART FLT PLAN FORECAST ON RECORD FOR THE FLT WHICH SHOWED A 180 MIN ETOPS OP. DURING THE FLT I QUESTIONED DISPATCH REGARDING THE ETOPS OP OF THIS FLT AND IT WAS THEN THAT THE DISCREPANCY SURFACED. WE SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED PERTINENT ETOPS 180 MINS INCLUDING ALTERNATE WX PRIOR TO ENTERING ETOPS AIRSPACE AND CONTINUED OUR FLT WITHOUT INCIDENCE. THE FLT CONCLUDED SAFELY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 598346: THIS WAS MY FIRST EVER TRIP TO ZBAA AND I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE PROCS AND REQUIREMENTS. PRIOR TO THE FLT WE DISCUSSED THE EFFECTS OF RECENT SOLAR ACTIVITY AND A PROBABLE SOUTHERN ROUTING. WHEN WE GOT THE FPF WE NOTICED THERE WERE NO ETOPS ALTERNATES AND RATIONALIZED THAT THE FLT WAS ALMOST SOLELY OVER LAND AND MUST BE WITHIN 60 MINS OF A SUITABLE ALTERNATE. SOON INTO THE FLT CAPT PLANNED FOR DIVERSION ARPTS AND NOTICED THAT WE WERE NOT WITHIN 60 MINS. HOWEVER, WE BELIEVED DISPATCH MUST KNOW SOMETHING WE DID NOT AND HAD A DIVERSION PLAN FOR US. WE HAD CONFIDENCE IN DISPATCH AND IT DID NOT OCCUR TO US THAT THEY WOULD OVERLOOK THIS. IT WAS OUR INEXPERIENCE AND AN OVERLAND ROUTING THAT RESULTED IN OUR FLT WITHOUT ETOPS DATA.
