Narrative:

Aircraft arrived with write-up on first officer yoke missing aileron trim unit placard. My lead looked up the part (bac27oct0392) number for me while I was working other write-ups. I was informed that the part was not in stock and to program it for replacement at a later date, as it was not on the required placard list. Our placard manual is misleading since there is one section called interior required placards and one called exterior placards where we later found the placard to be required. Either return to paper manual or better layout of computer setup would help to identify required placards.
