Narrative:
Entering santo domingo airspace. FL310 at vesco intersection. ATC advised flight XXXX to climb to FL330. First officer and myself acknowledged the clearance and told ATC we were out of FL310 climbing to FL330. Out of FL310 again advised ATC we were climbing to FL330. Level at FL330 again told ATC we were level at FL330. 3-4 mins later, ATC asked our altitude which we said was FL330. He responded the climb clearance was for another flight who was also on frequency and did not acknowledge any of ATC's instructions, to the best of our knowledge. He told us to just maintain FL330 and he would descend us to FL310 prior to port-au-prince airspace. No other traffic was involved.

Title: FLT CREW OF B737 OPERATING IN SOUTH AMERICAN AIRSPACE RESPONDED TO ALT CLRNC FOR ANOTHER ACFT. DESPITE SEVERAL XMISSIONS IN WHICH THEY REITERATED THEIR FLT NUMBER, CTL FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THE ERROR. ONLY DISCOVERED AFTER THE FACT WHEN CTLR NOTED THEIR ALT DISPLAY.
Narrative: ENTERING SANTO DOMINGO AIRSPACE. FL310 AT VESCO INTXN. ATC ADVISED FLT XXXX TO CLB TO FL330. FO AND MYSELF ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC AND TOLD ATC WE WERE OUT OF FL310 CLBING TO FL330. OUT OF FL310 AGAIN ADVISED ATC WE WERE CLBING TO FL330. LEVEL AT FL330 AGAIN TOLD ATC WE WERE LEVEL AT FL330. 3-4 MINS LATER, ATC ASKED OUR ALT WHICH WE SAID WAS FL330. HE RESPONDED THE CLB CLRNC WAS FOR ANOTHER FLT WHO WAS ALSO ON FREQ AND DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY OF ATC'S INSTRUCTIONS, TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE. HE TOLD US TO JUST MAINTAIN FL330 AND HE WOULD DSND US TO FL310 PRIOR TO PORT-AU-PRINCE AIRSPACE. NO OTHER TFC WAS INVOLVED.
