Narrative:
I received instructions from ground to back taxi on runway 18 and call the tower when ready. Aircraft were departing on runways 18/14 and 23. Most traffic was using runway 23. This is a new home base airport for me. The taxiway from our hangar leads to runway 18/36. On the few previous flts I have made, I followed the norm for pilots pulling out of the hangars at our position on the airport and requested a runway 18/23 intersection takeoff. However, I did not make the request. When I informed the tower I was ready at runway 18/23 intersection for departure, he informed me that he told me to back taxi on runway 18 and wanted me to do so as soon as possible, since he had an aircraft that had landed on runway 23 wanting to taxi to the ramp using runway 36. I immediately did a 180 degree turn and back taxied on runway 18 to correctly positioned myself at runway 18 threshold for takeoff. Evidently, when ground told me to 'back taxi on runway 18,' I heard 'taxi on runway 18' because I was primed to hear ground control tell me to taxi on runway 18 for a runway 18/23. We intersection takeoff. Though I repeated ground control's instructions correctly, I obviously didn't listen to myself.

Title: C182 PLT ACKNOWLEDGES HUF GND CTL TAXI CLRNC BUT FAILS TO REALIZE HIS NON COMPLIANCE UNTIL ALERTED BY CTLR.
Narrative: I RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND TO BACK TAXI ON RWY 18 AND CALL THE TWR WHEN READY. ACFT WERE DEPARTING ON RWYS 18/14 AND 23. MOST TFC WAS USING RWY 23. THIS IS A NEW HOME BASE ARPT FOR ME. THE TXWY FROM OUR HANGAR LEADS TO RWY 18/36. ON THE FEW PREVIOUS FLTS I HAVE MADE, I FOLLOWED THE NORM FOR PLTS PULLING OUT OF THE HANGARS AT OUR POS ON THE ARPT AND REQUESTED A RWY 18/23 INTXN TKOF. HOWEVER, I DID NOT MAKE THE REQUEST. WHEN I INFORMED THE TWR I WAS READY AT RWY 18/23 INTXN FOR DEP, HE INFORMED ME THAT HE TOLD ME TO BACK TAXI ON RWY 18 AND WANTED ME TO DO SO ASAP, SINCE HE HAD AN ACFT THAT HAD LANDED ON RWY 23 WANTING TO TAXI TO THE RAMP USING RWY 36. I IMMEDIATELY DID A 180 DEG TURN AND BACK TAXIED ON RWY 18 TO CORRECTLY POSITIONED MYSELF AT RWY 18 THRESHOLD FOR TKOF. EVIDENTLY, WHEN GND TOLD ME TO 'BACK TAXI ON RWY 18,' I HEARD 'TAXI ON RWY 18' BECAUSE I WAS PRIMED TO HEAR GND CTL TELL ME TO TAXI ON RWY 18 FOR A RWY 18/23. WE INTXN TKOF. THOUGH I REPEATED GND CTL'S INSTRUCTIONS CORRECTLY, I OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T LISTEN TO MYSELF.
