Narrative:
Because of our passenger's apprehensions of flight I selected the 1/2 bank mode on the flight director. We were departing crq and receiving vectors from socal. Without our knowledge we were being vectored close to a restr area north of our departure point. In the middle of the 3RD or 4TH vector, we were advised by ATC that we were getting too close to the restr area. We were issued another vector and asked to tighten our turn. I took the flight director off of the 1/2 bank mode and turned at a standard rate turn. After rolling out on that turn, he then gave us directions to turn immediately 30 degrees further right to avoid the restr area. When we rolled out on that heading, he said we could continue on course and, in the future, to make our turns out of crq tighter. It seemed that the controller was not monitoring our flight closely enough and panicked when he saw us getting too close to the restr area.

WE WERE ISSUED ANOTHER VECTOR AND ASKED TO TIGHTEN OUR TURN. I TOOK THE FLT DIRECTOR OFF OF THE 1/2 BANK MODE AND TURNED AT A STANDARD RATE TURN. AFTER ROLLING OUT ON THAT TURN, HE THEN GAVE US DIRECTIONS TO TURN IMMEDIATELY 30 DEGS FURTHER R TO AVOID THE RESTR AREA. WHEN WE ROLLED OUT ON THAT HEADING, HE SAID WE COULD CONTINUE ON COURSE AND, IN THE FUTURE, TO MAKE OUR TURNS OUT OF CRQ TIGHTER. IT SEEMED THAT THE CTLR WAS NOT MONITORING OUR FLT CLOSELY ENOUGH AND PANICKED WHEN HE SAW US GETTING TOO CLOSE TO THE RESTR AREA.
