Narrative:
On approach into jfk, we experienced several jolts that at first seemed like wake turbulence. We experienced about a 60 KT windshear at about 11000-10000 ft. The wind speed changed from 115 KTS to 45 KTS and shifted directions 180 degrees within a matter of seconds. Along with this, we experienced large and abrupt changes in altitude and airspeed which we briefly discussed and were in agreement to classify the turbulence as severe. We reported this to approach who said he was aware, yet he had given us no indication and no further information. No one was hurt and the aircraft landed uneventfully.
