Narrative:
Den tower put us on 280 degree heading at 8000 ft, 5 mi west. Den terminated radar service. Spotted traffic at 10 degrees at about 5 NM. Continued on course to jeffco area. At 7-8 NM west of den, traffic was getting close and asked first officer flying to descend, knowing the traffic would descend no further. Lost 600 ft to avoid what appeared to be an airbus with air carrier X. Traffic came to what seemed like 50 ft but no closer. Did not hear anything about incident over radio (monitoring of den tower).
