Narrative:

On gear retraction after takeoff, 'gear doors' and 'gear disagree' messages were observed on EICAS with warning lights 'doors' and 'gear' illuminated on the landing gear lights panel. Complied with irregular procedures 7-58.1/7-58.2 and called dispatch and maintenance and mutually agreed upon a return and landing in ZZZZ. On gear extension all landing gear indications and 'gear down' green lights were normal and a normal approach was made. As a precaution, a cabin advisory was issued and the flight attendants were briefed on the abnormal gear indications observed after takeoff. On landing, tower transmitted that 'engine fire' was observed, I then requested tower to send the fire trucks. During landing roll, tower said the fire was in the landing gear instead. Shortly after stopping the aircraft, tower reported that no fire was observed. Upon arrival, fire and rescue then gave an inspection and determined no imminent fire danger. When station maintenance arrived and inspected the left main gear, they found a broken torque link that had contacted the runway during landing and probably caused the sparks or 'fire' that was observed by the tower on landing rollout. We were then towed back to the gate to deplane.

Title: A B767-300 ON TKOF CLB AT 3000 FT DIVERTED DUE TO EICAS DISPLAYS 'GEAR DOORS' AND 'GEAR DISAGREE' WITH GEAR PANEL WARNING LIGHTS. CAUSED BY BROKEN MAIN GEAR TORQUE LINK.

Narrative: ON GEAR RETRACTION AFTER TKOF, 'GEAR DOORS' AND 'GEAR DISAGREE' MESSAGES WERE OBSERVED ON EICAS WITH WARNING LIGHTS 'DOORS' AND 'GEAR' ILLUMINATED ON THE LNDG GEAR LIGHTS PANEL. COMPLIED WITH IRREGULAR PROCS 7-58.1/7-58.2 AND CALLED DISPATCH AND MAINT AND MUTUALLY AGREED UPON A RETURN AND LNDG IN ZZZZ. ON GEAR EXTENSION ALL LNDG GEAR INDICATIONS AND 'GEAR DOWN' GREEN LIGHTS WERE NORMAL AND A NORMAL APCH WAS MADE. AS A PRECAUTION, A CABIN ADVISORY WAS ISSUED AND THE FLT ATTENDANTS WERE BRIEFED ON THE ABNORMAL GEAR INDICATIONS OBSERVED AFTER TKOF. ON LNDG, TWR XMITTED THAT 'ENG FIRE' WAS OBSERVED, I THEN REQUESTED TWR TO SEND THE FIRE TRUCKS. DURING LNDG ROLL, TWR SAID THE FIRE WAS IN THE LNDG GEAR INSTEAD. SHORTLY AFTER STOPPING THE ACFT, TWR RPTED THAT NO FIRE WAS OBSERVED. UPON ARR, FIRE AND RESCUE THEN GAVE AN INSPECTION AND DETERMINED NO IMMINENT FIRE DANGER. WHEN STATION MAINT ARRIVED AND INSPECTED THE L MAIN GEAR, THEY FOUND A BROKEN TORQUE LINK THAT HAD CONTACTED THE RWY DURING LNDG AND PROBABLY CAUSED THE SPARKS OR 'FIRE' THAT WAS OBSERVED BY THE TWR ON LNDG ROLLOUT. WE WERE THEN TOWED BACK TO THE GATE TO DEPLANE.
