Narrative:
Vny is under the outer ring of burbank class C airspace, which has a floor of 3000 ft MSL. My normal procedure on climb out from vny is to climb to approximately 2800 ft until clear of class C outer ring. On this occasion, I continued climbing to avoid several large birds in my path. Distraction by the birds, I did not realize that I had climbed to approximately 3600 ft. As soon as I realized that I had climbed into the class C airspace, I immediately leveled off, but did not descend because I was already at the boundary of the class C airspace. During the entire time, I was monitoring vny tower, but received no calls. Upon clearing the vny and class C airspace, I called socal departure and obtained VFR advisories. Socal departure did not advise of any deviation.

Title: PLT IN C182 DEPARTS VNY AND INADVERTENTLY CLBED INTO THE BUR OUTER CLASS C RING IN ORDER TO AVOID SEVERAL LARGE BIRDS.
Narrative: VNY IS UNDER THE OUTER RING OF BURBANK CLASS C AIRSPACE, WHICH HAS A FLOOR OF 3000 FT MSL. MY NORMAL PROC ON CLBOUT FROM VNY IS TO CLB TO APPROX 2800 FT UNTIL CLR OF CLASS C OUTER RING. ON THIS OCCASION, I CONTINUED CLBING TO AVOID SEVERAL LARGE BIRDS IN MY PATH. DISTR BY THE BIRDS, I DID NOT REALIZE THAT I HAD CLBED TO APPROX 3600 FT. AS SOON AS I REALIZED THAT I HAD CLBED INTO THE CLASS C AIRSPACE, I IMMEDIATELY LEVELED OFF, BUT DID NOT DSND BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY AT THE BOUNDARY OF THE CLASS C AIRSPACE. DURING THE ENTIRE TIME, I WAS MONITORING VNY TWR, BUT RECEIVED NO CALLS. UPON CLRING THE VNY AND CLASS C AIRSPACE, I CALLED SOCAL DEP AND OBTAINED VFR ADVISORIES. SOCAL DEP DID NOT ADVISE OF ANY DEV.
