Narrative:
I was called to aircraft for a problem with the IRS fault light. I replaced the IRU (inertial reference unit) and realigned the system and it checked normal. However, I did not downgrade the CAT status of aircraft. I knew just after departure that I made the mistake and reported same to our technician services. This, along with the added pressure to make the departure and also having 3 gate calls and only 2 mechanics, only added to the problem. I did talk to my lead, avionics technician, pilot and others and the CAT status was never brought up. I will make sure not to assume anything again. We also called and spoke to technician center and asked them to let the mechanic know if a part called out for replacement will effect CAT as a reminder.

Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH ACFT NOT DOWNGRADED FROM AUTOLAND TO CAT II AFTER REPLACEMENT OF THE INERTIAL REF UNIT.
Narrative: I WAS CALLED TO ACFT FOR A PROB WITH THE IRS FAULT LIGHT. I REPLACED THE IRU (INERTIAL REF UNIT) AND REALIGNED THE SYS AND IT CHKED NORMAL. HOWEVER, I DID NOT DOWNGRADE THE CAT STATUS OF ACFT. I KNEW JUST AFTER DEP THAT I MADE THE MISTAKE AND RPTED SAME TO OUR TECHNICIAN SVCS. THIS, ALONG WITH THE ADDED PRESSURE TO MAKE THE DEP AND ALSO HAVING 3 GATE CALLS AND ONLY 2 MECHS, ONLY ADDED TO THE PROB. I DID TALK TO MY LEAD, AVIONICS TECHNICIAN, PLT AND OTHERS AND THE CAT STATUS WAS NEVER BROUGHT UP. I WILL MAKE SURE NOT TO ASSUME ANYTHING AGAIN. WE ALSO CALLED AND SPOKE TO TECHNICIAN CTR AND ASKED THEM TO LET THE MECH KNOW IF A PART CALLED OUT FOR REPLACEMENT WILL EFFECT CAT AS A REMINDER.
