Narrative:
We were flying hou, tx, to teb, nj, and were in cruise flight at FL370 when we experienced an engine vibration followed closely by a 'generator hot' annunciator light on the r-hand engine. The r-hand generator was turned off and the checklist called for. The checklist was run and the r-hand engine was shut down in due process. During this time center was advised that we may have to do a precautionary shutdown of an engine due to a hot generator and requested an immediate descent to FL280 was requested. Also, WX was requested for our destination, teb, and subsequently washington dulles. Due to marginal WX at destination, we advised center that we were diverting to dulles and that we had shut down our r-hand engine. The flight proceeded to dulles and landed without further incident. Center was most helpful in complying with our requests.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SBR-1 CREW SHUT DOWN #2 ENG AFTER GETTING A 'GENERATOR HOT' LIGHT AND ENG VIBRATION IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CHKLIST.
Narrative: WE WERE FLYING HOU, TX, TO TEB, NJ, AND WERE IN CRUISE FLT AT FL370 WHEN WE EXPERIENCED AN ENG VIBRATION FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY A 'GENERATOR HOT' ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT ON THE R-HAND ENG. THE R-HAND GENERATOR WAS TURNED OFF AND THE CHKLIST CALLED FOR. THE CHKLIST WAS RUN AND THE R-HAND ENG WAS SHUT DOWN IN DUE PROCESS. DURING THIS TIME CTR WAS ADVISED THAT WE MAY HAVE TO DO A PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN OF AN ENG DUE TO A HOT GENERATOR AND REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT TO FL280 WAS REQUESTED. ALSO, WX WAS REQUESTED FOR OUR DEST, TEB, AND SUBSEQUENTLY WASHINGTON DULLES. DUE TO MARGINAL WX AT DEST, WE ADVISED CTR THAT WE WERE DIVERTING TO DULLES AND THAT WE HAD SHUT DOWN OUR R-HAND ENG. THE FLT PROCEEDED TO DULLES AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. CTR WAS MOST HELPFUL IN COMPLYING WITH OUR REQUESTS.
