Aircraft given clearance to cross pxt at FL280. Air crew read back FL280 and descended to FL280. Center subsequently queried our altitude and stated clearance had been to FL290 and cross pxt at 280 KTS. No conflict.

Narrative: ACFT GIVEN CLRNC TO CROSS PXT AT FL280. AIR CREW READ BACK FL280 AND DSNDED TO FL280. CTR SUBSEQUENTLY QUERIED OUR ALT AND STATED CLRNC HAD BEEN TO FL290 AND CROSS PXT AT 280 KTS. NO CONFLICT.
