Narrative:
We were cleared to land runway 22L at mdw. The first officer was flying. He did an outstanding job touching down firmly yet smoothly just prior to the 1000 ft mark and decelerated quickly. As we rolled out and approached 80 KTS, I, reporter, captain, PNF, prepared to take control of the aircraft. We had a light, 91000 pound, -500 and we decelerated more quickly than I anticipated. Normally, I would take the high speed turnoff 'D.' however, this time, at taxi speed I was committed to entering 'F' before I realized I was not at 'D.' I should have paid more attention to the taxiway signs. When we told ground control where we were, he asked if we could proceed, we said we could and continued to the gate uneventfully. Our -500 jet weighed 91000 pounds, well under the 95000 pound limit for taxiway F. However, our wing span exceeded the 94 ft limit by 9 inches. Next time, I will brief the first officer to make sure I bypass taxiway F.
