Narrative:
Location: right base runway 18R. Approach brought over the top for an approach to runway 18R. Regional approach gave us headings to a visual approach. Controller turned us and then cleared us for a visual approach from a right base. Assigned downwind heading much too close to the runway along with a w-e 40 KT wind at altitude caused us to overshoot to runway 17R. No conflict occurred. I questioned the approach controller and he issued an apology for the tight downwind and also mentioned the wind was not helping him.

Narrative: LOCATION: R BASE RWY 18R. APCH BROUGHT OVER THE TOP FOR AN APCH TO RWY 18R. REGIONAL APCH GAVE US HDGS TO A VISUAL APCH. CTLR TURNED US AND THEN CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH FROM A R BASE. ASSIGNED DOWNWIND HDG MUCH TOO CLOSE TO THE RWY ALONG WITH A W-E 40 KT WIND AT ALT CAUSED US TO OVERSHOOT TO RWY 17R. NO CONFLICT OCCURRED. I QUESTIONED THE APCH CTLR AND HE ISSUED AN APOLOGY FOR THE TIGHT DOWNWIND AND ALSO MENTIONED THE WIND WAS NOT HELPING HIM.
