Narrative:
There is a traffic light (automatic) just beyond the departure end of runway 33L that goes to a flashing red late at night, so I'm told, that when viewed from 1000 AGL on final approach to 33L at bwi, the sight angle looks like the red anti collision light of an aircraft that could be on the approach end of 15R departure end of 33L. The sight angle changes and the red light disappears from view below 400 AGL. I asked the tower about this and he said I was not the first crew to bring this up. The light in question is at the off ramp at 195 east and camp meade rd.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A TRAFFIC CONTROL LIGHT AT THE FAR END OF RWY 33L AT BWI IS A DISTRACTION FOR ARRIVING ACFT ABOVE 400 FT LATE AT NIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT IS TURNED TO A FLASHING RED LIGHT GIVING THE APPEARANCE OF AN ACFT ANTI COLLISION LIGHT.
Narrative: THERE IS A TRAFFIC LIGHT (AUTO) JUST BEYOND THE DEP END OF RWY 33L THAT GOES TO A FLASHING RED LATE AT NIGHT, SO I'M TOLD, THAT WHEN VIEWED FROM 1000 AGL ON FINAL APCH TO 33L AT BWI, THE SIGHT ANGLE LOOKS LIKE THE RED ANTI COLLISION LIGHT OF AN ACFT THAT COULD BE ON THE APCH END OF 15R DEP END OF 33L. THE SIGHT ANGLE CHANGES AND THE RED LIGHT DISAPPEARS FROM VIEW BELOW 400 AGL. I ASKED THE TWR ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID I WAS NOT THE FIRST CREW TO BRING THIS UP. THE LIGHT IN QUESTION IS AT THE OFF RAMP AT 195 EAST AND CAMP MEADE RD.
