Narrative:
Flight was from sba to hpn. Shortly before reaching the las VOR, center cleared us 'direct hpn.' as we fly the route on a regular basis, we had loaded the hpn arrival prior to departure. The arrival fix for hpn is dny, just north of hpn. As ZLA was quite busy, I told the PF I would get an amended clearance from the next controller (which is denver), as they usually are not as busy. Of course, we then promptly forgot! Approximately 2-3 hours later, center asked where we were going, as they showed us off course. I immediately explained what happened and requested direct dny. The corrective action is to 'fly your clearance' -- not what you anticipate you will be cleared, even if they are 200 mi away!

Title: LJ60 FLT CREW AT ALT PLAN FOR A DIRECT ROUTING XFERRING FROM ZLA TO ZDV. AFTER FREQ CHANGE, THEY 'PROMPTLY FORGET' AND AREN'T CHALLENGED UNTIL OBSERVED BY ZID AIRSPACE WHEN OFF FLT PLAN FILED RTE.
Narrative: FLT WAS FROM SBA TO HPN. SHORTLY BEFORE REACHING THE LAS VOR, CTR CLRED US 'DIRECT HPN.' AS WE FLY THE RTE ON A REGULAR BASIS, WE HAD LOADED THE HPN ARR PRIOR TO DEP. THE ARR FIX FOR HPN IS DNY, JUST N OF HPN. AS ZLA WAS QUITE BUSY, I TOLD THE PF I WOULD GET AN AMENDED CLRNC FROM THE NEXT CTLR (WHICH IS DENVER), AS THEY USUALLY ARE NOT AS BUSY. OF COURSE, WE THEN PROMPTLY FORGOT! APPROX 2-3 HRS LATER, CTR ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING, AS THEY SHOWED US OFF COURSE. I IMMEDIATELY EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND REQUESTED DIRECT DNY. THE CORRECTIVE ACTION IS TO 'FLY YOUR CLRNC' -- NOT WHAT YOU ANTICIPATE YOU WILL BE CLRED, EVEN IF THEY ARE 200 MI AWAY!
