Narrative:
I unknowingly flew 8 hours in 24 hours. I had realized my error after my trip, when totaling my logbook. The day prior, we were delayed by a mechanical problem for approximately 4 hours. We had 13 hours rest, but after researching, we needed 13 hours 40 mins rest. We need twice our flight time off under part 121 supplemental operations. On arrival, I checked in with scheduling and wasn't alerted to any violation. We actually flew 2 legs over 8 hours. On the morning of the violation, I signed in for the trip and scheduling never alerted me to the potential of an 8 in 24 problem. I flew the trip under blind faith that our scheduling department with its computers and time-tracking would notify me of an 8 in 24 violation. I learned that I have to constantly 'trust, but verify' my times since I'm 1/2 responsible for monitoring my times for violations.
