Narrative:

Immediately after takeoff, flight attendants reported smoke in cabin. Leveled off at 3000 ft and turned back toward mia. Turned off both packs and galley power. Flight attendants reported smoke getting worse. Declared emergency and made an immediate overweight landing on runway 27R at mia at 138200 pounds. Touchdown was smooth at less than 50 FPM. While clearing the runway, I asked for a status report from the cabin -- they said al of the smoke had cleared immediately after landing. I told them we would return to the gate as long as no smoke reappeared. After fire chief examined exterior of aircraft and found no evidence of heat or smoke, we taxied to gate and deplaned normally. No injuries to any passenger or crew members and no damage to aircraft as a result of the landing.
