Narrative:
During a simulated short field landing, the aircraft nosed over and struck the propeller on the ground. The back seat occupant was the PF and during the last few seconds of rollout, I (front seat occupant) applied more brakes to demonstrate that more braking was available. This caused the momentum of the aircraft to carry it forward, onto its nose, which caused the propeller strike. The poh does not recommend braking with the tail off the ground. Advisory circular 61-21A talks about braking with the tail off, but urges caution and says to counter the forward momentum with back pressure from the stick. The 2 main factors in this incident were my (front seat occupant) application of the brakes during a critical phase of flight unexpectedly, and the application of brakes with the tailwheel off the ground which goes against what is recommended by the poh. We are changing company procedures to not allow braking with the tail raised.

Title: INSTRUCTOR PLT APPLIES EXCESSIVE BRAKING TO CH7A WHILE DEMONSTRATING STOPPING CAPABILITY TO STUDENT PLT. ACFT NOSES OVER AND STRIKES PROP.
Narrative: DURING A SIMULATED SHORT FIELD LNDG, THE ACFT NOSED OVER AND STRUCK THE PROP ON THE GND. THE BACK SEAT OCCUPANT WAS THE PF AND DURING THE LAST FEW SECONDS OF ROLLOUT, I (FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT) APPLIED MORE BRAKES TO DEMONSTRATE THAT MORE BRAKING WAS AVAILABLE. THIS CAUSED THE MOMENTUM OF THE ACFT TO CARRY IT FORWARD, ONTO ITS NOSE, WHICH CAUSED THE PROP STRIKE. THE POH DOES NOT RECOMMEND BRAKING WITH THE TAIL OFF THE GND. ADVISORY CIRCULAR 61-21A TALKS ABOUT BRAKING WITH THE TAIL OFF, BUT URGES CAUTION AND SAYS TO COUNTER THE FORWARD MOMENTUM WITH BACK PRESSURE FROM THE STICK. THE 2 MAIN FACTORS IN THIS INCIDENT WERE MY (FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT) APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES DURING A CRITICAL PHASE OF FLT UNEXPECTEDLY, AND THE APPLICATION OF BRAKES WITH THE TAILWHEEL OFF THE GND WHICH GOES AGAINST WHAT IS RECOMMENDED BY THE POH. WE ARE CHANGING COMPANY PROCS TO NOT ALLOW BRAKING WITH THE TAIL RAISED.
