Narrative:
After takeoff, passenger X notified the flight attendant that she had went thru security with a hand gun in her purse. Gun was put in flight attendant's suitcase and locked. Flight returned to mbpv. After rescreening the passenger, and checking the cabin, flight continued without further incident. Flight was not over weight for landing. Crew did not declare an emergency. Supplemental information from acn 607846: on a flight from mbpv to ZZZ we returned to mbpv due to female passenger turned over her hand gun to flight attendant after takeoff. Passenger reportedly advised forgot she had a gun in her bag. Flight deck was notified and item was secured in cockpit. Flight returned without incident. Item was reportedly rescreened in original bag. Machine did pick up item. Screener reportedly missed the gun again. Aircraft/passenger rescreened with different screener personnel. Flight re-departed.
