Narrative:

On feb/fri/04, I was called out to a live passenger flight to work on a loose seal on the #2 ground spoiler of the left wing. I cut off approximately 3 inches of the loose seal as I have done in yrs past. Unknown to me, the technical operations manual had been changed and this procedure had been removed from the book. The maintenance coordinator called me after I had typed the log sheet into our computer system. He said this was illegal since the company policy was changed. We contacted the next station where the aircraft would land and the maintenance technician replaced the seal for us. No aircraft problems were incurred.
